55 Degree Wine Bar

A sister wine bar to Wine Expo in Santa Monica, 55 Degree Wine and Wine Bar is a new addition to the LA area. Located in the trendy Atwater Village near Silverlake and Glendale, this tiny wine shop and wine tasting bar unassumingly tucked into a mini-mall behind a Starbucks has a fun selection of little known, but well chosen wines and beers.

55 degree wine barThe wine selection is very similar to Wine Expo with an emphasis on little known, traditional, farmer grown and bottled wines from Italy. A good selection of sparkling wines, particularly great Champagne, rounds out the list.

Every night except Monday the underground, little funky and traditional wine bar opens up and pours interesting flights of wines that change weekly. You can find their weekly wine menus on their website.

By the way, in case you are confused by the name, it refers to the temperature which is considered to be ideal for a wine cellar to protect aging wine and to allow it to develop to its maximal potential.
