Brandywine Restaurant
Located in a cute little cottage-like building tucked between storefronts right on Ventura Blvd near Fallbrook, this unassuming little place is all about quaintness and romance. Owned by a greek former Sommelier and his wife, this is a family run affair. He is the maitre d' and server and she is the chef. Inside, this place is tiny. But that's a good thing! There are few tables in the middle of the room but for a really romantic atmosphere call to reserve one of the cute, sheltered booths along one wall.
The service is impeccable. The menu changes frequently and is presented on a small chalkboard brought to your table. The maitre d' will explain the options, make suggestions and help in any way he can. He knows a fair amount about wine too so he can help pair wine from their small but interesting wine list.
![]() And the food? Well we've been very happy with the food here. It is European in style, mostly classic French. This is old school and traditional, not a flashy new-fangled fusion or molecular gastronomy. Although the menu is small it usually has a good selection of types of food so you can stick to steak or something like that if you want to stay simple. If you are a bit more adventurous you'll be delighted by classic French preparations of dishes like sweetbreads and bouillabaisse. Sweetbreads can be one of those dishes that are either great or horrible. The example here, pictured above, was delicious... rich and heady yet not too heavy. I ate it all up with great gusto. The prices are fair, not rediculously expensive, definitely worth it for a special date night. This is a really fun, romantic place. So for your next special date or if you just want some good traditional French fare, we'd recommend it! Of note, this is not a family friendly restaurant. It is small and romantic. Unless your kids are young enough to sit quitly through a long dinner, go somewhere else with them but come here for a date night out when you have a babysitter! Enjoy!
