Foster's Freeze

Okay, so Foster's Freeze didn't invent soft serve ice cream (Dairy Queen's founder did that in 1938) however they were the very first in California and certainly in Los Angeles! The first location opened in Inglewood in 1946 and burgers, fries and other food items were added right after that...so some say this is actually the first fast food in Los Angeles!

Regardless of who did what first, this place has been around a long time and there are still several locations throughout California. The oldest surviving locations are right here in Los Angeles of course.

We pretty much always get the classic dipped cone when we go to Foster's Freeze (Josh's childhood favorite...as well as his dad's childhood favorite) but everything is classic and their menu has everything from soft serve cones to blended candy bar shakes to burgers, fries and hot dogs. The usual ice cream stand/fast food combo menu. Keep in mind, these are all stands and most have no indoor seating at all, so go on a nice day. Luckily here in LA, that is pretty much every day.

And don't you love their adorable ice cream cone logo on their signage? I hope they never change.

Have fun & don't forget your appetite!
