Long Beach Aquarium of the Pacific
Focusing, as the name implies, on the sea life of the Pacific ocean, we really like a lot of the permanent exhibits at the aquarium. From funky fish like the sea dragon (can you believe that thing is real!?) seen below to otherworldly jellyfish-filled tanks, there is plenty to facinate you.
All in all, there are what seems like dozens of separate exhibits including both major habitats of the Pacific and focused exhibits that seem to rotate pretty often. Some include hands-on displays that you and your young ones can touch sea stars and the like.
The map is a bit confusing, so don't get lost, but it is fun to just wander the premises and see everything you can. But don't forget to go outside! After entering the building, there are several exhibits outside in the back! These are some of the best, especially for kids. They include sharks and sting rays, many of which you can touch!
There is also an enclosed bird sanctuary where the birds literally land on your shoulder. But watch out! They have an appetite for ears!
Finally, there are a number of movies, presentations and tours you can sign up for (they are extra) including a behind the scenes tour, feed a shark or ray and so on. Some of these and special event nights change regularly, so check out what is happening currently.
