The Los Angeles County Fair
So we were a bit prepared to be disappointed by the LA county fair. We needn't have worried! This fair has a little bit of everything for everybody. It is huge, filling the gigantic (and a bit imposing) Pomona Fairplex. You couldn't possibly see it all in one day. There are dozens of exhibits, events and shows to take in.
But most importantly we were thrilled to see all the things you hope for in a county fair... more food than you can shake a stick at, games, rides, drinks, cooking competitions and animals. Did we miss anything?
The huge red barn is filled with animals, a petting zoo with dozens of sheep and goats... not to mention the giant sow surrounded by little piglets.
We thought the prices for tickets for the rides and game booths were a bit steep, but I guess you just have to go prepared to spend a bit of money. The Los Angeles County Fair is a lot of fun. You can literally stay entertained for days and never eat the same thing twice in the process (unless you want to of course). It usually runs for a month in fall, from early September through early October, although the fairplex hosts dozens of other events, shows, fairs and festivals year-round. Go early in the day and be prepared to spend a long time. Put on sunscreen (most of it is outdoors) and bring your own bottled water, it gets hot and you don't want to pay $3+ for a small bottle from a vendor. Also, unless you don't mind a long walk before you even get to the fair, it pays to fork over the extra 5 to 10 bucks for preferred or VIP parking. Enjoy!
