Los Angeles Shopping

Los Angeles shopping is pretty amazing, you can find just about everything here. Whatever you are looking for, even pretty specific things, you'll likely find it here. You'll probably even find a whole store (or three!) devoted exclusively to it!

We aren't talking about Los Angeles shopping for the latest fashions. Our interests go way beyond where you can find the latest Prada. What we are talking about here is our favorite places where you can buy stuff, from exotic reptiles to the best selection of pottery and ceramics supplies, from fine wine to natural toys.

Below we'll post links to our pages about various places you can buy stuff. But it is much more than just that. Most of these places are fun to visit even if you don't intend to buy anything. Most are fun stops for the whole family. Even if you don't play guitar, check out Norm's rare guitar shop. Even if you don't want a slithery pet, check out Prehistoric Pets. Many of these Los Angeles shopping places are both fun and potentially educational.

If you have any favorite Los Angeles shopping spots we'd love to hear about them! Share Your LA favorites on our site. You can upload photos and tell us and our visitors all about them.

Have fun Los Angeles shopping!

store prehistoric pets
Prehistoric Pets
Have a young dinosaur or lizard enthusiast in your family? This is not your ordinary pet store, it is a huge, well cared for collection of turtles, lizards, snakes and reptiles.

Kids can feed fish and turtles, pet snakes and see a variety of animals that you won't even see at the zoo. They also host educational, hands-on "Jurassic" birthday parties here. Hang out with a boa who could swallow your toddler while you eat birthday cake! Fun! No, really. More...

allied model trains
Allied Model Trains
Are you a railroad fanatic? Love building model trains? Have kids? Any of these are a good reason not to miss Allied Model Trains in Culver City.

This great model train shop has had a store in the area for a long time (it was there when we were kids!) and has everything for the railway enthusiast, including intricate trains set up to watch. Its free to browse so its a fun and easy stop with the kids if you are in the area. More...

Original Farmer's Market
One of the best "one stop" Los Angeles shopping areas, this is "old, classic LA" at its finest. Time seems to stand still here, or at least go much slower than the rest of the city and many of the shops have been there since the very beginning. Good food, good atmosphere and a piece of historical LA.

Always tons of kids here and high chairs are scattered around in the outdoor dining areas. It is loud and outdoors so go ahead and bring your crying baby - nobody will blink an eye. And you can buy everything from stickers to exotic hot sauces to gourmet ingredients. More...

third street promenade
Third Street Promenade
The 3rd Street Promenade in Santa Monica is a pedestrian-only strip of 3rd Street which is chock full of shops, restaurants and movie theaters, kinda like an outdoor mall. If you don't want to be couped up in an indoor mall, this might be a good Los Angeles shopping spot for you. However, it can be more fun than all that.

The street performers can vary from average to downright fantastic. The crowds can get crazy on the weekends but it is a fun area to hang out and people watch and it is only minutes from other great Los Angeles family friendly attractions like the Santa Monica Pier. More...

mccabes
McCabe's Guitar Shop
McCabe's guitar shop in Santa Monica is a local institution that is much more than just a guitar shop. They specialize in acoustic, stringed instruments and you'll find all kinds of stuff you've never heard of before, dulcimers, baritone ukeleles, dulcimers and more. Whether you are a musician and need supplies or a repair or just a Los Angeles family and want to check out all the cool stuff, its a fun stop.

Also, McCabe's hosts great small, intimate music performances by unbelievably good artists of all types. More...

normans rare guitars
Norman's Rare Guitars
Normans is not your every-day guitar shop. Its neither a big-business chain with oodles of new flashy instruments like Guitar Center or a crappy little guitar shop trying to scrape by.

This little hole in the wall is a gem of a guitar shop with a simply awesome layout of rare, classic guitars of all types. Even if you aren't a guitarist it is a fun place to visit. Teach your kids all about guitars and music! Los Angeles family fun can be educational too! More...

santa monica seafood
Santa Monica Seafood
This is our favorite place to buy fresh seafood in the LA area. They have a great selection, are very knowledgable and helpful and we've found by experience that the quality and freshness of the fish is superior to most other places, particularly general markets.

Santa Monica Seafood recently moved from a much smaller spot around the corner and therefore has an even bigger selection and even a new café and raw bar with freshly shucked oysters! More...

Los Angeles Wine Shops
In case you haven't noticed yet, we are foodies and wino's (well, at least the two adults of us are!). If you are in Los Angeles shopping for a good bottle of wine, you'll have no trouble finding it in Los Angeles.

In the Los Angeles wine section we have a list of many of the best wine shops in the general LA area. A lot of them have particular specialties, so check out all our reviews to decide which one is right for what you are looking for. More...
