Santa Monica Pier Aquarium

The Santa Monica Pier Aquarium is a bit hidden! We lived here a long time before ever noticing it. Even though its called the pier aquarium it is not on the pier itself! So if you go wandering around the Santa Monica Pier itself you wont find it. You'll find alot of other fun stuff though, so check that out too!

Instead, the aquarium is under the ramp of the pier, practically hidden unless you are wandering down on the ocean front walk just to the south of the root of the pier. It is not a huge space but it is fun to explore and the emphasis appears to be on education and preservation.

While this is not the Aquarium of the Pacific, it is a fun stop, especially for those with kids and it doesn't take up the whole day, leaving time to explore the surrounding beaches and pier. There are serveral aquariums with cool fish and other sea life. But most fun is the large tide pool tables where you can touch and explore starfish, sea cucumbers and other sea creatures.

There are several displays with educational info about the sea and sealife. They also have educational programs. Some days and times are blocked out for school field trips and presentations. But open to the public are the kids' corner with books, games and puzzles for younger kids. On Saturdays there are naturalist presentations, Sundays are Shark Sundays and other classes and lectures happen at various times. Check their website for more info and schedules.

Of note, the aquarium is also open for parties and groups and has plenty of room and tables for your kids next birthday party.

Santa Monica Pier Aquarium (Heal the Bay):
Located below the ramp of the Santa Monica Pier at the end of the Ocean Front Walk. Parking available on the pier and in Lot 1 North and South on either side of the pier.

Summer Hours:
Monday: Closed (Education Programs)
Tuesday-Friday: 2:00pm-6:00pm (Educational Programs until 2:00pm)
Saturday & Sunday: 12:30pm-6:00pm

Admission Fees (subject to change):
12 & Under: Free!
Children Over 12: $5 suggested donation ($2 minimum)
Adults: $5 suggested donation ($2 minimum)
Groups of 10 or more, including children: $2 per person
